Family tree▼ Facts and Events
John worked on ships for a number of years, until the First World War broke out. He happened to be docked in Halifax, Nova Scotia at the time, and immediately signed off the ship he was on, and joined what was then the Canadian Expeditionary Force. He fought in France and Belgium, and in 1917 suffered a serious leg wound which put an end to his active service. A few years later he came to Canada, where he worked for a time in various jobs in Quebec. After later moving to Windsor, Ontario, he got a job on the original Detroit-Windsor tunnel. While in Windsor John met Ethel Dolsen, who was boarding with relatives there. They married in 1931, and eventually moved to London, Ontario, where their daughter, Agnes, was born on May 13, 1934. She was to be their only child. They also lived in Sarnia and later Chatham, Ontario, where they spent the rest of their lives. |
