LAST RITES FOR J. SAM DAVIS TO BE WEDNESDAY

Funeral services for John Samuel Davis, 82, pioneer of this country who died Friday, August 30, at Rochester, Minn., will be held at 2 o'clock Wednesday afternoon at the First Congregational Church.

Mr. Davis was born in St. Joseph, Mo., in 1853, and when but a small boy moved with his parents to Iowa where he grew to manhood. In 1877 he was married to Cloe E. Kinnick. In the spring of 1882 with his wife and three-year-old son, Mr. Davis strarted across the plains to Wyoming. In August of that year they arrived in Big Horn and located on Beaver Creek.

Later disposing of that property Mr. Davis filed on a place on Little Goose which is now part of the Charles Skinner property near Big Horn. His desire for more sparsely populated places with open ranges led him to the West Pass Creek country in the summer of 1885. The place where he located is now known as the "Mountain Home" ranch. There he and his wife built their first log cabin where they made their home until the time of his death.

The pioneer was active in the early day building of county roads. For a time he was road supervisor and later county commissioner. He assisted in arranging the plans and floating the bonds for the present county court house. He was also vitally interested in the establishing of schools in Sheridan county. He was an early member of the B. P. O. E.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Cloe Kinnick Davis: two sons, Charles A. Davis of Hope, Alaska; and Sterling S. Davis of Buffalo; one daughter, Mrs. Tom Lamb of Sheridan. One child preceeded him in death. He is also survived by nine granchildren and two great grandchildren...
