In 1839 land in Overton County, Tennessee was deeded to a Mr. Harden W. Smith by John S. Daugherty and Surkiah Daugherty for $1400.00
On 2 Sept. 1858 Surkiah Daugherty gave power of attorney to Mr. John Sevier.
John S. Daugherty was clerk of the County of Overton, Tennessee in 1840.
The Daugherty's, the Armstrongs, the Sevier's, the Dulworth's and the Turner's were all related by marriage in Overton County, Tennessee. A vast number of all of the above families moved from Overton County, Tennessee to Dent, Shannon, Washington, Texas, Jefferson and Phelps Counties, Missouri shortly before the Civil War. As their sympathies lay with the Confederacy almost all of them supported and fought during the Civil War on the side of the Confederate States of America, CSA. Some lost their lives during the Civil War and others died in Prison of War Camps. Two camps known for sure to contain some of the above families soldiers are Jefferson Barracks, St. Louis County, Union Prison of War Camp and the Union's Alton, Madison County, Illinois Prison of War Camp.
