Bio: U.S. Congressman. Born in East Haddam, Connecticut, he moved to Warren, Ohio, in 1822, attended Warren Academy, (1822-25), studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1827 and commenced to practice law in Warren. He was part owner and editor of the Western Reserve Chronicle and a member of the Ohio State Senate in 1840. In 1847, he was elected as a Whig to the Thirtieth and Thirty-first Congresses, serving until 1851. Not a candidate for re-nomination, he moved to Cleveland, Ohio, in 1852 and resumed the practice of law. He also served in the Ohio State Militia for twenty years and obtained the rank of Major General. In addition, he became editor of the Western Law Monthly, a member of the faculty of the Homeopathic Medical College and was president of the Ohio State and Union Law College, (1862-76). He died at age 81 in Cleveland, Ohio.
