John Crawford, Jr., was born in 1783 and died October 21, 1834 from the result of a gun shot which was accidental. His father, John Crawford, Sr, is reputed to have come from Armaugh, a district in Ireland and to have first settled in Eastern Pennsylvania. Later with his son, John, Jr., then twenty years of age, the family moved to the western part of the state, locating in the vicinity of the present site of Braddock. Finally they selected territory in the present Pine township and at once set to work clearing and erecting a temporary log house. Soon a story and a half log cabin was built and was followed by a brick house which is still standing. A warrant for the land was issued to John Crawford, Jr, April 4, 1807, calling for 403 acres, 88 perches of land and a deed of conveyance was granted by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania on January 25, 1814.
John Crawford, Jr and Mary Sample were married about December 1804 and had 13 children ... The couple lie side by side in the grave yard of the Old West Union Presbyterian Church, having been removed from the Wallace burying ground long discarded.
