CORRIGAN, John Vincent, priest, was born in Uptergrove, Ontario, on Decemb er 4, 1907, the son of Hugh Vincent Corrigan and Mary Agnes Long. He died at Toronto, Ontario, on October 5, 1962. Father John Corrigan made his high school studies at Uxbridge, Ontario, th en in 1925 came to Assumption College School in Windsor, Ontario, to complete Grade XIII. At the end of the school year he entered St. Basil's Novitiate in Toronto and was professed on August 11, 1927. After professi on he returned to Windsor where as a student of Assumption College he obtained a B. A. from the University of Western Ontario in 1930. The followi ng year he attended the Ontario College of Education in Toronto. He made his theological course at St. Basil's Seminary in Toronto and was ordained priest on December 17, 1933. In 1934 Father Corrigan was appointed to St. Mary's Boys' High School in Calgary, Alberta, where he taught until 1949. He was superior and principal from 1943 until 1949. The years 1949-52 were spent in graduate studies at St. Michael's College and brought him an M. A. in philosophy in 1952. He taught at St. Thomas More College in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, 1952-55. St. Basil's Seminary was his residence from 1955 until 1958 and St. Michael's College School from 1958 until his death in 1962. He was buried in the Basilian plot, Holy Cross Cemetery, Thornhill, Ontario. Father "Dan" Corrigan, as he was always called, possessed a notably pleasant disposition, calm, even tempered and cheerful. And with this there was his wit, humorous observations on people and events, interpreted in a kindly way and delivered in an unhurried manner. Throughout his life Father Corrigan was plagued by injuries and ill health. An injury suffered as a student at Assumption College cost him the sight of one eye while another necessitated major brain surgery in 1942. In 1948 he had a spinal fusion to repair an injury to his back. A further inquiry to his back in 1953 was coupled with a heart condition that left him a semi-invalid. At St. Basil's Seminary Father Corrigan showed a special interest in vocation work and he was Director of Vocations for the Congregation, 1956-60. He published a textbook Vocation to the Religious Life (Toronto, 1959), and a pamphlet Your Vocation (Toronto, 1960). His periodical publications were: "Discussion on the Theology of Religious Vocation", in Proceedings of the Basilian Meetings To Discuss Vocations 3 (1957) 52-66; "Johnny Doesn't Know How to Study", in The Basilian Tea cher 5 (Nov. 1960) 59-63; "Justice in the Classroom", in The Basilian Teac her 4 (Nov. 1959) 27-31; "Practical Pedagogical Pointers", in The Basilian Teacher 1 (Oct. 1956) 3-8; "Teaching the Mind of Christ", in The Basilian Teacher I (Jan. 1956) 2-8; "Vocation Recruiting", in Occasional Papers of St. Basil's Seminary 2 (Nov. 1956) 22 p.; "Westward Hoa", in The Bas ilian 1 (Mar. 1935) 15, an article which describes the work of St. Mary's Boys' High School in Calgary.
