"He lived in Boston and Braintree prior to 1640 and it has been stated that he was a brother of Deacon Edward Collins. There is, however, no definite proof of this. He was admitted to the church at Boston, April 4, 1646 and was made a freeman, according to the Colonial law, May 6, 1646. He was a member in 1644 of "The Ancient and Honorable Artillery Company," of Boston, an organization which is still in active existence (1958). He had a grant of land for Braintree, Massachusetts. Both John and Edward Collins were active business men and prominent in the Massachusetts colony."
