According to "Kentucky: A History of the State", Battle, Perrin, & Kniffen, 3rd Ed. 1885, Larue Co., Proffessor Coakley was reared on a farm and was educated at Centre and Bethel Colleges. At the age of 17 he first taught school in Larue County, Kentucky. He taught in the schools of Green County until 1871. He taught in many other places until he ended up at East Lynn College, in Buffalo, Larue County, Kentucky. The Proffessor and Lizzie had only the one girl, Anne Bion.
