Facts and Events
Came to Utah Sept. 13, 1861, Joseph Horne Company He and his two sons left on the sailing vessel "Lady Switzerland." They arrived in New York safely after a long voyage for on a sailing vessel it was very uncertain as to how long it would take to cross the ocean. . . . The family stayed in New York (Grandfather worked at Hunters Point) until the spring of 1861 when the family left for Utah. He had his fertile farm and two homes in town but was lonely so when a widow came to town, he married her (Francis Davis). She only married him for his property. She lived with him long enough to get the deeds for the farm and then vanished. Grandfather married a German convert, a widow, in Paris. Her name was Mrs. ____Schmedlin. She had a daughter my age and we had many good times together. This wife was very kind to him and helped him at his work. He always had a big flock of chickens and a good garden. She took good care of him until his death 25 July 1914 at Paris, Bear Lake County, Idaho. References
