CHAPIN, John Wilbur, 91, passed away July 20, 2005, in Sioux Fall, S.D. He was born October 8, 1913, in Hankinson, N.D., to Wilbur and Iva Chapin. He stayed in the North Dakota area until moving to Sioux Falls, where he married his childhood friend, Marie Jones Stykel. Together they built and operated the J&M Club in Sioux Falls until 1963 when they moved to Brandon. In 1971, they left Florida and moved to Portland, Ore., to assist their son with the Mustang Gas and Oil business. Upon John's retirement in 1979, they returned to Florida to be closer to their other family members. Marie passed away in 1989. John continued living in Florida until 1999 when he returned to Sioux Falls where his granddaughter, Jeanne Pattison, and numerous old friends lived. Jeanne was his caretaker during his last few years. He is survived by sons Dale Jones [and seven others], ...; [three] daughters, ...; 33 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren. His parents; two brothers, Deane and Allen; one sister, Mary Cronier; his son, Jim Stykel; daughter, Karen Chapin; and three grandchildren preceded him in death.
