Spent seven years of a twelve year sentence at Peterhead Prison in Scotland. The years immediately following his release were spent creating references and building a CV. His jobs included working as a porter in various London hotels while he gained qualification to enable him to get better paid work. This he did and worked for London Underground a an admin officer till retiement. I remeber him before that working in various ticket offices and working various shifts....up at 4 a.m. to get the early bus to work. To supplement the family income he worked for a coin company in his spare time. Also did part-time debt collecting.House in Harringay was large and the top floor was converted to 2 small flats so we always had lodgers...many of them quite crazy.
