- Dear Marilyn Rudd: The parents of George Washington Byers were George J.Byers (1820-1888) and Rebeck (1822-?), George J.'s parents were William Peyton Byers (1792-1873) and Nancy Suton (no dates). W.P. was born in Virginia, moved to Marion County, IL in 1827. His parents were Capt. George Byars (1771-1843) and Sarah Watkins (1794-1869), George's parents were Capt. John Byers (1734-?) and Elizabeth Thomason (b.in Louiise Co.,VA 1735); John's parents were James Henry (or Henry James) Byers (b.1713-?) and Peggy Gentry. I don't have parents for these last two, nor do I know where they came from. I'm supposing some area of Scotland originally since there are still a lot of Byers all over Scotland. Plan to go to Virginia sometime and root around in the roots there to see if I can get further back.
- Please let me know if you have or find further info. My ancestor was Martin (1843-1927)m. Malisa Wells, a brother to your George Washington. His son was Thomas Jefferson (1864-1948)whose son, William Duncan (1887-1953) was my father. These people all lived in Jefferson or Marion Counties in Illinois since 1827.
