Facts and Events
John Bryan enlisted in July 1776 in Chester County, PA as a sergeant. He rose to rank of either captain or major by the end of the revolution. According to a short biography of John Bryan written by Julius C. Martin and passed down in the family, James Martin wrote in his father-in-law's obituary that he was a major by the end of the revolution. However, most of the other sources I've found list him as a captain, although one source lists him as a colonel. References
