"14 John (Brown), b. 1589? An original planter of Hampton, Oct. 1638, he was among the half dozen dignitaries granted a 'farm,' and in 1653 paid the third largest tax. Savage discredited his age at d., 18 Feb. 1687, ag. 98 yrs., but thinks he may have come on -The Elizabeth- from London 17 Apr. 1635, ag. 40, discussing the matter under three Johns [this was later determined by Robert Charles Anderson (The Great Migration) to have been the John Brown of Taunton and Rehoboth].
