A transcription of his will:

I John Brees of Newtown in the county of Montgomery Tanner being of sound memory and understanding do make my last will and testament in manner following Imprimis I will that all my just debts and Funeral expences be discharg’d as soon after my decease as conveniently can be Item I give and bequeath unto my Daughter Elizabeth the wife of Thomas Hall the sum of one shilling Item I give and bequeath unto my Son Theophilus Brees my house in Newtown in which I now live together with the garden Outhouses and all other appurtenances thereunto belonging Item I give and bequeath unto my Daughters Mary and Sarah Brees share and share alike all the remainder of the property moneys goods and chattels that I shall die possessed of, and my wish and desire is that my said Daughters Mary and Sarah Brees may continue in the Farm at Keven Aing Lastly I do hereby constitute and appoint my said Daughters Mary and Sarah Brees joint Executrixs of this my last will and testament whereunto I have set my hand and seal this fifth day of February in the year of our Lord 1774
