Someone has erected a large gravemarker sometime after the burial which gives a record of John's wives and children. A photo of this is posted at Find-a-Grave website and the inscription is copied here: "John was born in Bute, North Carolina, the son of Capt. John Blakeney and Margaret (Evans). He enrolled in the American Revolution in the summer of his eighteenth year, joining Col. Lemuel Benton's regiment. He was the Quartermaster in Maj. Ross' detachment, and was an Adjutant under Col. William Bratton. He married (1)Nancy Lowery, and their child was Mary Sally. After her death, he married (2)Nancy May in Anson County, NC, on May 1, 1785, and their children were Susannah "Susan", Jane, John "Jack" III, James, Elizabeth "Betsy", Frances, Hugh, Michal (female), William, Lewis Alexander, and Nancy May."
