John J. Bischoff, 85, of Terre Haute died Friday morning, Nov. 18, 2005, in Union Hospital. He was an elevator technician with Fairhall Elevator Company and formerly worked on the Manhattan Project at Hanford Engineering Works in Hanford, Wash., during World War II.

He was born June 26, 1920, in Indianapolis to August Bischoff and Theresa Kennedy Bischoff.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Leah R. Greiner Bischoff; one daughter and son-in-law, Carla and John Haley of Terre Haute; one son, John R. Bischoff of Terre Haute; five granddaughters, Sarah Lee and her husband Keith, Laura Haley, Emily Haley, Ann Haley and Leah Haley; one great-grandson, John Joseph Lee; a sister-in-law, Ruth Greiner of Terre Haute; and two nieces, Gail A. Price and Charlynn Skirvin.

He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church.

Prayers will begin at 10:20 a.m. Monday, Nov. 21, 2005, in Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 S. 25th St., followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in St. Patrick Church, with the Rev. Rick Ginther officiating. Entombment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled prior to services on Monday from 9 to 10:20 a.m. in the funeral home.
