  5.   Note: Source:Trumbull, James Hammond. Memorial History of Hartford County, Connecticut, 1633-1884, p. 1:272, says John Bigelow m. Rebecca, d/o George Butler. Source:Bond, Henry. Family Memorials. Genealogies of the Families and Descendants of the Early Settlers of Watertown, Massachusetts, Including Waltham and Weston (1855), p. 29, says John Bigelow m. Rebecca, d/o Jonathan Butler of Hartford. Both of these are wrong. These were apparently attempts to explain why John deeded some of his property to Jonathan Butler (John had no children of his own). [Bond called it by will dated 1707, but Source:Howe, Gilman Bigelow. Genealogy of the Bigelow Family of America, p. 23, says it was by deed, the latter being consistent with his widow being given administration, which wouldn't have happened if he had a will.] This Jonathan Butler was a nephew of his wife, son of Samuel Butler and Mary Olmstead. John's own nephew, Joseph Bigelow, son of his brother Jonathan, challenged the deed to Jonathan Butler, but it was upheld by the courts.
