!OBITUARY; Waterloo Press, Jan 19, 1911 John Bemenderfer's Life - Last of Large Family - was over 90 years old

Funeral of the late John Bemenderfer was held at the home of the deceased's daughter, Mrs. John C. Clark, in Smithfield township, at 1:30 o'clock last Friday afternoon and interment took place at Cedar Lake Cemetery. A large concouser of people gathered at the home to pay their respects, and there were many words of sympathy given the family in their hours of sorrow. Elder E. W. Shepherd conducted the service.
He was united in marriage on May 10, 1854 to Elizabeth Chapman who survives him. To this union were born two children. Marion Bemenderfer, who died August 30, 1905 and Nannie Clark, the wife of John C. Clark, a prosperous farmer in Smithfield township. Besides the widow there survives the daughter and six grandchildren to mourn his departure.
In the fall of 1854, Mr. Bemenderfer came to Steuben County and resided on a farm north of Barker's Chapel on the Steuben and Dekalb County line. Here he lived until 1864 when he located in Waterloo, at which place he made his home until October 4, 1907 when, with his wife, he went to live with his daughter in Smithfield township, both of them being too feeble to live alone, and they have been tenderly cared for in their declining days by Mr. and Mrs. Clark.
Mr Bemenderfer was a man of high ideals in life, being a Christian of faith and fortitude and in his younger days was a regular attendant at church services. He was upright, honorable in his dealings, and had many friends, who will regret to learn of his death. For several years he has been in quite feeble health, and was a great care to the family, who adminisrtered to his every want in his old age.
