At his home in Trenton, Freeborn Co., Minn., April 3, 1890, of pleura typhoid pneumonia, John W. Ayars, aged 68 years, 6 months and 8 days.
Brother Ayars was born near Shiloh, N. J., and was the seventh son of John and Margaret Ayars. There was also one sister. But they all had passed on before. During the past year he frequently spoke of his being the only surviving member of the family, and that his turn would come soon. He spoke thus with calmness and Christian fortitude. In early life, during a great revival under the labors of Eld. John Green, he gave his heart to God, and united with the Shiloh Church. June 22, 1843, he married Mary B. Davis.
In Apr., 1855, he left New Jersey for the West, stopping a year in Milton, Wis.; then he moved to Minnesota and settled upon the place where he died. His great object in coming to Minnesota was not only to secure a home for himself, but also to encourage others to come and get comfortable homes. Nor did he forget the religious interests. He was a constituent member of the Trenton church, and continued this membership till the end of his earthly career. He has now joined the church beyond the dark river.
Bro. Ayars was a man of industry and integrity, kind hearted, and true to his convictions. He was a good husband and father. His death is a great affliction to the family. He leaves the wife of his youth and six children, - two sons and four daughters. Funeral on First-day, April 6, 1890, attended by a large company. Sermon by the writer, from Ps. 46: 1.
