John Quincy Ashley left home at the age of nineteen and went to Illinois, returning home three years later at the death of his brother James, where he lived until the death of his father. He then purchase a boat, and was in the canal and lake trade between New York and Canada until his marriage, in 1866. From that time he worked at his trade, which is that of a carpenter, in Ft. Ann, NY, until his removal in March, 1886 to Glens Falls, NY, his residence in 1896. References
