to Abigail Graves

Abigail Graves of Lyme CT, daughter of Thomas Graves and Mary Hopson, married John Adsit. He was born in 1714 in Lyme, CT and died in 1790 in Hillsdale, Albany County, NY. He served as a private in the 8th Albany Co. NY regt in the Rev. War under Col. Robert Van Rensselaer from 1775-1780. He was a son of John Adsit and Mary. This John Adsit is supposedly the first Adsit in America of whom there is any known record. He lived in Wethersfield and Hartford, CT before locating at Lyme, CT about 1716. He had supposedly come from Essex, England when a small lad. No record of place or date of birth has been found, but his death is recorded as Jan 1734/5. He first married Sarah Howard of Wethersfield, Ct in 1653 and had three children. He secondly married Mary and had 6 more children of whom John, 2nd, seems to have the oldest. (page 34). The source for this information is listed as Robert J. Adsit, "Adsit Family History", c. 1960 (his address given as 588 Cullum St., Meadville, PA 16335 Just glancing through the other Adsits, it looks like they were concentrated in upstate NY and Pennsylvania. I am sure your Luna Adsit fits in there somewhere. You could also contact, the author Kenneth Vance Graves at 261 South Street, Wrentham MA 02093 to see if he has any updated information on the Adsit connection."At the time of the 1810 federal census, my Bunce family resided in Hillsdale, Columbia Co., NY which is about 6 miles from Egremont, Berkshire Co., Mass. where Rhoda Loomis' was born in 1782. It's possible that MY Martin Adsit was a grandson of the John Adsit who lived at what was then "Hillsdale, Albany Co., NY." A couple of men named Adsit were heads of families in Columbia Co. at the time of the 1800 census of Hillsdale, Columbia Co. NY. Both records appeared on p. 189 of the census, so they were likely related to each other, but neither family would have had a record of a child born two years later, MY Martin Adsit.Martin Adsit1 free white male under age 102 free white males aged 10-161 free white male aged 16-261 free white male over age 451 free white female aged 10-161 free white female aged 16-261 free white female over age 45Elisha Adsit [the younger man]1 free white male under age 101 free white male aged 10-161 free white male aged 16-261 free white male aged 26-453 free white females under age 101 free white female aged 16-262 free white females aged 26-45
