John Henry Adams, Veteran Carpenter Dies on Sunday Worked on Many of Cornwall's Most Important Buildings Not in the best of health since June, but able to be about until 10 days ago, John Henry Adams died at Cornwall General Hospital at noon Sunday. Despite the fact he passed his 84th birthday February 26 last, Mr. Adams was smart and active up to the time he was removed to hospital. He failed to respond to treatment and gradually grew weaker. Mr. Adams came from a pioneer family of this section, his father being John Adams and his mother Mary Ann Clements, of Cornwall. As a young man he learned carpentry and followed that occupation up to 15 years ago, when he retired. For many years he was employed in the carpenter shop of Canada Mill and later worked for James C. Johnstone, contractor, helping to construct some of Cornwall's most important business blocks and private residences. With the exception of a couple of years spent in High River, Alta., with his son Alex. Adams, who played lacrosse there as well as with Cornwall Seniors after his return, Mr. Adams spent his long life in Cornwall. His wife the former Catherine Chisholm, died in March, 1920. He leaves one son, Alex. Adams, carpenter construction foreman, Department of Transport, Cornwall; a brother, Hugh Adams of Marcellus, N.Y., former member of the Cornwall lacrosse team; three sisters, Mrs. James Armstrong, Marcellus, N.Y.; Mrs. Charles O'Callaghan and Miss Gertrude Adams in Montreal. The funeral service will be conducted at the home of his son, Alex. Adams, with whom he resided, 317 Fifth Street East, at 2:30 o'clock Tuesday afternoon, by Rev. James Faultds, D.D., pastor of Knox United Church. Burial will be made in Woodlawn Cemetery.
