Research Notes

  • Parents established in following records:
    • 1804 German Birth/Baptism 1: Carolo Ludovico Ayd & Barbara Ochse
    • 1842 St. Louis, MO Marriage Record 2: Karl Aydt & Barbara Ochs
  • According to many online genealogies, John Leonard Aydt was also known as "Cheap John" [needs a good source].
  • Supposedly, he was living in the area of Shawneetown, IL prior to 1842 [need some immigration records, etc.]. His 2nd cousin, John Cajetan Aydt, had also been living in the US, but traveled back to Germany to convince other friends and family members to move to the US. Cajetan Aydt was successful and returned to the US with a group of 25 German immigrants. They landed in New York, traveled through Pittsburgh, PA (where some of them remained) and continued on to Illinois where they met up with John Leonard Aydt. This group then settled in Hamilton county, Illinois.
  • Many online genealogies do not mention the marriage that occurred in 1842... John Leonard Aydt married his 2nd cousin, once removed, Juliana Aydt, on 5 Sep 1842 in St. Louis county, MO. She was the daughter of John Cajetan Aydt.
  • John Leonard Aydt's brother, Carl Wilhelm Aydt, was among the group who settled in Hamilton county, Illinois.
