Research Notes

  • Parents established on baptism1 and marriage record (see family page)
  • Carl Ludwig Ayd married Barbara Ochs and his brother Leonard Ayd married Maria Thecla Ochs, her sister.
  • Birth records for his children establish that Karl was the owner/innkeeper of "The Crown" in Bilfingen and was even Mayor of Bilfingen in 1815.
  • A death record for him has been located in Germany, so it would appear that he did not emigrate to the United States.

    p. 140.

Translation: "On July 10, 1781 was born at 2 a.m. and baptised at the same day in the parish Ersingen-Bilfingen, Carl Ludwig Ayd, son of the inn-keeper and citizen from Bilfingen Leonhard Ayd and Agatha nee Brenk. Godfather: The blacksmith Matthias Kerr."

    p. 34, No. 40.

For the birth record of his son Johann Jacob Ayd on 20 March 1815, Carl was described as "the local mayor and inn-keeper of the Crown (Kronenwirt)." He was not listed as Mayor on birth records in January 1812 or February 1817, so his term ran sometime between mid-1812 and early 1817.
