    John was the fourth of twelve children born to Johannes Nehs and Elizabetha Roush. He was christened on June 28, 1786 with Johannes and Dorothea Roush as sponsors.
    John married Elizabeth Ottinger, daughter of John Ottinger, on Dec 26, 1809 in Greene county Tennessee. John and Elizabeth were the parents of seven children.
