Served as Tax Assessor in 1779; as taxes were enormously high, owing to the Revolution, contemporary history does not speak too kindly of him. He was one of the Commissioners of Dauphin county, which included the territory of Lebanon, for the years 1785, 1786, 1789 and 1790. He was captain of the militia from 1785 to 1788. The Salem Lutheran and First Reformed churches were built by him.
