While it may seem this SCHEPMANN Family may have originated in Schwagstorf, at least one son became a resident of nearby VENNE, where Udo Thoerner reported on Page 125 of his book, that 38 people with the surname of SCHEPMANN left Venne for America! We have almost 250 years of history of this family.

In America, there were many Schepmanns in the nearby community of "Sauers" (in Jackson County, Indiana) who also carried the surname of Schepmann, and who are probably related. Hopefully, that will be proven soon!

A branch of this family, first settled in the "BLACK SWAMP" area of northwestern Ohio, where others related to these Schwagstorf people settled. In his book, Udo Thoerner has described the "BLACK SWAMP" from Pages 200 to 216.

US President Rutherford B. Hayes also described the "Black Swamp" in his diary, and the people who drained it.

In his "LEGACY PROGRAM" this compiler had 26 Schepmann surnames listed prior to 2011, mostly in the Waymansville area of Indiana.
