Taufpaten : Einlieger Johann Wilken, Kavelstorf, Katenmann August Hardt, Damm, Katenmann Peter Schumacher, Prisannewitz -- John Kaeding (Johann Käding) born June 9, 1836 came to this country from Mecklenburg Schwerin Germany via Washington, Mo., 1853. He was one of three children, an older brother Henry came to this country first, and settled in California, he was a shoe manufacturer. It was he who suggested the spelling be changed to Kaeding. There was one sister, Sophia, who married John J. Schneider and lived in Vandalia, Illinois they had three children : Sarah, Anna and Samuel.

Anna Bunge, a half sister married Adolph Watermann and moved to Nebraska. Charles Bunge was a half brother, he remained in Casconade county.

John Kaeding was a Union Soldier in the Civil War, Regiment 31 Missouri Volunteers, for 2 years, 11 months. He was in the battles of Missouri Ridge, Chattanooga, and Lookout Mountain.

After the war he came back to Bland, bought a small piece of land from his half brother, Charles Bunge,. As time went on he continued to buy land adjoining this original piece until he had over 300 acres.

Charlotte Klaas, born Dec. 12, 1844, came to Amerika from Fürstentum Lippe Detmold Germany via Washington Mo., she married John Kaeding Oct. 28, 1866. To this union were born 8 children; two sons, Karl and Fred who died as small children. Samuel married Mary Krause and lived on a farm adjoining his fathers. They had five children: Nora, Hermann,Walter George and Harry. Sophia married William Krause and made their home at Red Bird. He was a woodworker, and wagon maker. They were survived by seven children: Edward, William, Nora, Elda, Albert, Harry and Marie.Mary who remained at the home never married.

Henry married Sophia Schmidt, was a businessman having a hardware store and later became Bland´s first auto dealer. They had one daughter, Erna.

Minnie married Ed Steiner. After farming for a few years near König, they moved to Sedalia, Mo., where he worked for the railroad. They had two children: Albert and Erna.

John spent most of his life on the family farm north of Bland, married Adelia Wittrock Nov. 25, 1909, and had three children: Gladys, Ruth and William (Bud). Gladys married Edward Winter and lives in St. Louis, Ruth makes her home with Gladys. "Bud" took over the family farm after his father´s death March 9, 1954, making this a three generation and a centennial farm. Williams death came July 21, 1976.
