"Mr. John F. Haag was born Aug. 12-1811 in Gersheim Germany, jurisdiction of Zweybrüoken the Pfalz, and was a carpenter and school teacher by trade. His religion was Catholic. This Mr. Haag is my grandfather on my mother's side. He served six years in the 1st company 2nd battalion of the German army from 1833 to 1839. He was honorably discharged. He then applied for a Pass-Port to migrate to the Unite States of America. Remark on his Pass-Port read - tall 5ft. 8 in... forehead high ... nose small ... beard light ... color hair light ... eyes gray ... mouth small .. oval face .. body lean flank. Notary Seal April 16-1839. I have his original Parr-Port. When Mr. Haag arrived in the Unites States, he settled in Putnam County, Ohio. Mr. Haag had one sister. She married a Mr. Wahrheit. they had two daughters and one son. The son John Warheit was killed in the Civil War. One of the girls married a Mr. Ringleirs. Mr. John F. Haag married Elisabeth Steinmetz from Seneca County, Ohio on Sept. 26-1844. The following children were born to this union..."
