Canfield Twp. Cemetery & Death Records, Mahoning Co. OH, 1983, p. 1 "The first established Lutheran and Reformed congregation in the Connecticut Western Reserve was in Canfield. This congregation built their first church in 1810. "An overwhelming number of the early members of this church (Zion Lutheran and Reformed) were natives of Lehigh (Northampton until 1812) and Berks counties, Pennsylvania, who came to settle in Canfield, Austintown, and Ellsworth townships. Lynn and Heidelberg townships in Lehigh and Greenwich Township in Berks are particularly well represented. There were two major waves of migration – one in 1804/1805 and a second in the late 1820's." Among the families who were early members of this church were: Arners, Bachmans, Baileys, Borts, Brunstetters, Butts, Corlls, Crums, Crumrines, Dustmans, Everetts, Finks, Franks, Fulks, Gilberts, Grabers, Hardings, Lynns, Millers, Neffs, Neiers, Ohls, Osborns, Oswalds, Peters, (Petry-Petre) Ritters, Stitles, Strocks, Wannemakers, Wehrs, and Whitsels. Records are lost. The church was destroyed by fire in 1845, and again in 1894."

Joh. Michael b. 22 Nov. 1761, bap. 1 Jan. 1762 New Hanover. Sponsors Jacob Roth and wife (Magdalena). He was confirmed there Ascension Day 1777 by Rev. Fred. Aug. Muhlenberg. He went with the family to williams Twp., Northampton Co., where he married about 1787. He and Elizabeth, dau. of Geo. Frederick and Elizabeth Kleinhans of Williams Twp. apparently had one daughter in 1790 and 3 sons and 3 daughters by 1800. His son Johan died and was buried 4 Sept. 1803 according to records of the Evangelical Lutheran Ccngnegation of Easton. In 1815 he was living in Ohio.
- Fries's Rebellion.
Resistance began in Northampton County as early as August, when Michael Krumrein and his two sons, Henry and Adam, erected a liberty pole on their Williams Township farm along the road to Easton. It apparently attracted considerable attention for Easton's Federalists, and on September 8, a Moravian justice of the peace, Philip Arndt, rode out to the Krumrein farm to destroy the symbol of opposition. Just four years earlier Federalists had witnessed liberty poles in the western part of the connected to the excise resistance, and they called them “sedition poles.” In 1798, Federalist reporters in depositions revived that term for Kirchenleute poles. As Arndt rode up to the Krumrein farm, he saw Michael Krumrein and his two sons. Michael was armed with a stake, and Adam carried a large stone; someone had alerted them to Arndt's mission beforehand. As Arndt stepped down from his horse, Adam drew forward, raised his stone, and threatened “to knock [Arndt] down if he attempted to cut down the … liberty pole.” His father added “that he fought once against the Stamp Act” in his youth “and would fight against it.” Outnumbered, Arndt conceded and rode off, leaving the Krumreins and their liberty pole standing.” ---Fries's Rebellion: The Enduring Struggle for the American Revolution, Paul Douglas Newman, University of Pennsylvania Press, May 31, 2012, p.90
[Arndt seemed to have gotten the family wrong. It was elder brother Michael, with 2 younger brothers Henry and Adam.]
