Will written 9 August 1785; Probated 8 November 1785
"In the Name of God, Amen. I, Nicholas Coape of the County of Rowan And Province of North Carolina being very Sickly and weak in or in perfect Health of body but or and in perfect mind and memory thanks be Given unto God.
Calling unto mind the Mortality of my body and flesh that it is appointed for all men once to Die to make and Ordain this my last will and Testament that is to Say Principally and first of All, I Give And Recommend my Soul into the hand of the Almighty God that Gave it And my body I Recommend to the Earth to be buried in Decent Christian burial at the Directon of my Executor nothing Doubting but at the General Resurrection I Shall Receive the Same Again by the mighty Power of God and as Touching Such worldly Estate wherewith it has pleased God to bless me in this life, I give, demise and Dispose of the Same in the following manner.
And first I Give and Bequeath to Catherin my Dearly beloved wife Her Bed and One of my Cows and A Spinning Wheel and a Iron Pot and all my movable affairs except what goes to pay the debts. I do leave to my daughter, Elisabeth, One Cow and Calf, I leave to my son Phillip One Hundred and Sixty Acres of land beginning at John Harrowood Corner Tree on the River running up the River Five Rod above his Upper Fence running with the Dividing Line for compliment between John Harrowood and Phillip Coape and the rest of my land to my son John, each of them to pay Fourteen Pounds (word unreadable) money a piece to my daughter Dority, eight pounds to his daughter Catharin, six pounds to my daughter Elisabeth, nine pounds to Jost Coape's oldest son, five pounds when he comes of age, Phillip Coape is to pay Dority eight in the same year and Catherin to be paid the next year, the said Phillip Coape and John Coape is to be joiners in paying of her in the payment, John Coape is to pay three pounds and the said Phillip Coape the remainder I do hereby leave Jacob Gobel and Phillip Coape Executors of my worldly affairs in Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this ninth day of August One Thousand Seven Hundred Eighty Five."
