    "Maddiver, Maddaford, a name highly localized on the Devon Cornwall border. 1 Joel(2), Purpooduck, yeoman, signed a Scarboro pet. in 1663, pet. to Andros 1688, pet. to Bradstreet 1689. Walter Gendall took poss. of his ho. and lands for him from Walter Mare in 1671. … He took his fam. to Boston in Philip's War, and in the next Ind. crisis to Beverly, from where in 1697-8 he sold the Purpooduck Pt. 100 a. to Wm. Jameson of Charlestown. Returning too soon he was k. in the Purpooduck massacre 10 Aug. 1703 and his w. Rebecca (m. bef. 1673) taken captive. Ch: Joel, signed pet. in 1689 which his fa. signed as Sr. Poss., with other ch. an Ind. victim. Judith, m. Samuel Ingersoll(2). Mercy, b. 12 Aug. 1677 in Boston. And poss. Martha (Matafor), m. at Chebacco 24 Mar. 1699 Samuel Parish."

  2.   Mercy and Martha appear to be the same individual. The Norwich record of the death of Samuel Parish's wife calls her "Marcy".
