Joel Robert Hancock, was born 12 September 1890 in Boone County, Indiana. He was s/o Glen Haven Hancock & (1) Mary Pearl Dell. After his mother's death, his father remarried. In 1920 and 1930, Joel (as Robert J.) resided with his paternal aunt, Mary "May" (Hancock) Lanham and uncle, Sylvester Lanham.
Joel Robert Hancock married 1932 to Mary Louise Laughner.
