Obituary, Welch, OK; Joe H. Tullis of Welch died Saturday, May 17, 2003, at his home after a sudden illness. He was 96. Tullis was born May 18, 1906, in Bartlett, Kan., to John and Rose Leta (Pever) Tullis. He was a lifelong area resident and a graduate of Altamont, Kan., High School. He owned and operated the family farm near Welch and was a member of Maybelle Baptist Church in Welch. He married Mildred Anderson on Nov. 6, 1930. She preceded him in death on March 10, 1996. He was also preceded in death by his parents; one son, Wayne Tullis who died in 1998; one brother and one sister. Survivors include two sons, Jo L. Tullis of Kansas City, Kan., and Ernest Tullis of Welch; one brother, Loyd Tullis of Welch; one sister, Antje Brady of Chetopa, Kan., seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Thomas Funeral Home in Welch with the Rev. Lloyd Carder officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in Chetopa. Pallbearers will be Chris Floyd, V.O. Morgan, Bill Lester, Dale Tullis, John Tullis and Calvin Brady. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
