In Welton, Clinton Co., Iowa, Dec. 25th, 1869, of typhoid fever, Deacon Job Vanhorn, in the 63d year of his age. Bro. Vanhorn was born in what is now West Virginia, and there, in early life, experienced religion; emigrated to Ohio when still a young man; later in life moved to the vicinity of Farmington, Illinois; thence to Iowa. He was a conscientious, God-fearing man, and though he passed through many vicissitudes, never sacrificed principle for convenience. In his attachments he was warm and strong; in his intercourse with his fellow men, respected and obliging, always setting a lower estimate on himself than others placed on him. For years, his health has been failing; yet he was always at his place in the house of God, when circumstances allowed. He loved the cause of God ardently, was a member of the Church at Welton, and identified himself with all its interests. We felt his value, which did not consist in showy attainments, but in his everyday life of godliness. He always enjoyed the confidence of those who knew him. He died as the Christian dies; his end was peaceful. His children have lost a devoted, loving parent, the church a faithful member, and the world a good man.
