Joanne Carole Nye MAY 19, 1939 ~ FEBRUARY 6, 2018 (AGE 78) Hartsgrove - Joanne Carole (White) Nye, daughter of Herbert Engel White and Sarah Leavy (Gingery) White, age 78, died on Tuesday, February 6, 2018 in Cleveland, Ohio. She was born on May 19, 1939 in New Castle, PA and grew up in Zelienople, PA and Cleveland Heights, Ohio. Joanne was preceded in death by her parents and her sister Sarah Elizabeth White, brother William Herbert White, as well as her husband William Robert Nye and son Charles Edward Nye. Surviving Joanne are her sons William Robert Nye Jr., David Perry Nye, daughter Sarah Nye Pick and 12 grandchildren.
Joanne graduated from Cleveland Heights High School where she is now inducted into their Music Hall of Fame. Joanne played the violin and was the concert mistress of their orchestra. Joanne also played Field Hockey, Volleyball and was President of the Yellow Jackets Girls Varsity Club. Joanne attended two years of Ohio Wesleyan University before transferring and graduating from the Francis Payne Bolton School of Nursing at Case Western Reserve University where she received her BS in Nursing. Since then she has accumulated a lot of continuing education hours at both Kent State University and the University of Akron.
Joanne started her career as a Psychiatric Nurse at University Hospitals in Cleveland, Ohio. In 1973 she started her 26 year career as a Grand Valley School District school nurse. She was member of the Cleveland Women’s Symphony Orchestra. She was the Organist, Board Member, and Treasurer of the Hartsgrove Community Church. She was also a member of the Ashtabula County Board of Health, 648 Board of Mental Health and Retardation, NE Ohio Council on Alcoholism and NE Ohio American Lung Association. Joanne was a talented musician (violin, piano and organ) with a passion for Early American antique collecting, gardening, crafting, and travel. She visited over 25 countries and all 50 US States.
A memorial service officiated by Rev. Robert Leonard will be held on Sunday, February 11, 2018, 3:00 pm at the Hartsgrove Community Church, 5260 US Highway 6, Rome, OH 44085. Visitation will be held at the church prior to services from 1:00 pm to 2:45 pm. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Hartsgrove Community Church.
