- ↑ It is possible that Joanna is the daughter of Nathan and Mary, given some of the facts here are vague and unsourced and she would apparently fit into the family, but there are some indications otherwise and none of the given sources actually specify her parentage. By all appearances, the birth date given comes from a family Bible, not a birth record, since a specific birth location doesn't seem to be known. But that is just a guess.
The census records indicate a birth in New Hampshire, but her purported parents were living in Massachusetts in 1800. The death record names her parents as Edward and Joanna. No birth record in New Hampshire has been found, nor has a possible Edward and Joanna Fay been identified. But likewise, neither has any evidence linking her to Nathan and Mary been found. The other children are recorded in Plainfield, but not Joanna. The 1800 census shows Nathan in Buckland, but there is no record of Joanna's birth in Buckland (here, p. 21).
