João Alvares Pereira, son of Álvaro Pereira, and D.Mécia Vasques Pimentel, was the lord of the land of Santa Maria, from Cabanões, from Ovar and the land of Cambra, confirmed in 1386 by the king D.João. 1399- João Alvares Pereira , lord of the Land of Santa Maria and procurator of the noble , marries Leonor Gonçalves de Mello, a learned woman with reading and writing skills who signs documents on behalf of her husband. She is the Daughter of Gonçalo Vaz de Mello, lord of Castanheira, and his wife Constança Martins.

February – The kings of Portugal and Castela establish peace negotiations, through delegates who are located in Olivença. These proceedings began on the 8th or 9th of February 1399 and continued until October.

1401, 8th November- wedding of the illegitimate son of D.João, the count of Barcelos, to the only daughter of the supreme commander of the kingdom, D.Nuno Alvares Pereira, cousin of João Alvares Pereira, the lord of the land of Santa Maria. The wedding party of D.Afonso and D. Beatriz was arranged to be in Lisbon. The grand reception was attended by the all the people of the kingdom and there was jousting, tournaments and many other games. João Alvares Pereira, lord of the land of Santa Maria, and his family are present at the wedding of his cousin D.Beatriz, daughter of the supreme commander of the kingdom D.Nuno Alvares Pereira. A medieval wedding recreation is staged

1407, 27th June - D. João I appoints by letter, a fortnightly fair and the requisition of the good men of the fair at the request of João Alvares Pereira, lord of the land of Santa Maria, therefore bringing about the rebirth of the oldest fair of the kingdom, acheived under the innovation of the Virgin Mary, the lady of the castle whose name was given to the people. Various parties and festive gatherings, always associated to profane spaces of product trading, were common in the land of Feira and spring and summer ended with the parties of S.Cipriano in Paços de Brandão.

João Alvares Pereira, the brave warrior, was present at the open air festival ( arraiala) of Infante D.Henrique, near the Square of Tanger. On the 3rd of October 1437, the Mouros attacked this place and it became the guard of the lord of the land of Santa Maria. His son and some other noblemen, in this very square, obtained fame and a reputation of being good warriors and loyal vassals.
