BUFFALO GAP – Jewel Mae Collie, 76, died Saturday, September 24, 2005, in a Temple hospital. Services will be 2:00 p.m. today, Friday, September 30, 2005, in First Baptist Church in Buffalo Gap with Reverend David Cason officiating. Burial will be in Buffalo Gap Cemetery, directed by Fry-Bartlett Funeral Home in Tuscola.

Jewel was born January 12, 1929, in Bowie to John Moses and Cletus Jackson Johnston. She moved to Buffalo Gap from Bowie in 1943. She lived in Big Spring and Abilene, returning to Buffalo Gap in 1985. While in Big Spring, she was a member of First Baptist Church and was active in Women’s Missionary Union. She worked at Abilene State School for 25 years, retiring in 1989 as an LVN. She was a member of Broadview Baptist Church in Abilene.

Survivors include two daughters, Sandra Smith of Austin, and Scharlene Paul and her husband Ron of Winterhaven, Florida; one brother, Samuel Upton of Victoria; one sister, Joyce Sparks of Buffalo Gap; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
