Published Monday, November 8, 1948 Front page of Mt. Vernon Register-News. Jess L. Whitlock, Former Merchant, Dies at Age 68 Jess L. Whitlock, who operated an insurance agency here, died at 10:45 p. m. Saturday at his home, 321 South 15th street. His age was 58 years, nine months, and 12 days. Mt. Whitlock was a wholesale feed dealer in Mt. Vernon for several years and at one time operated a grocery store. Funeral Services will be held Tuesday at 2:00 P. M. at Myers Chapel and burial will be in Oakwood cemetery. The body will remain at Myers Chapel where friends may call at any time until the funeral hour. Mr. Whitlock had been a well-known resident of Mt. Vernon for the past 32 years. He was born January 24, 1880 in Jefferson County, the son of George L. and Margaret (Patton) Whitlock. On November 23, 1904 he was married to Blanche Moss, who survives. He was a member of the Baptist Church and of the Modern Woodmen of America. Surviving, besides his wife, are one son, Robert L. Whitlock of Baltimore, Md; a daughter, Mrs. A. L. Batson of Miami, Fla.; a brother, W. P. Whitlock of Texico and one grandchild.
