Jesse W. Votaw, 87, of 537 North High, El Dorado, died Monday morning at his home.
Services were held Wednesday at the Kirby-Morris Funeral Home Chapel with burial in the Walnut Valley Memorial Park Cemetery.
Mr. Votaw was born Nov. 2, 1890 at Pennville, Jay County, Ind., the son of Ellis Ervin and Cora Emma (Crumrine) Votaw. On August 4, 1912, he married Tenna Bates at Gerald, Mo. They moved to El Dorado in November 1917 from Montpelier, Ind. He was employed by American Petrofina as a boiler fireman until his retirement in 1959.
His memberships included the First Christian church, Patmos Lodge No. 97, Wichita Consistory, of which he was a life member and the Oil, Chemical and Atomic Workers Local Union No. 5-241.
Survivors include his wife of the home; a son, Ellis of Topeka; three daughters, Mrs. Alvin (Frances) Manka of Douglass, Mrs. Thelma Webster of West Covina, Calif., and Mrs. W. D. (Dorothea) Palmer of Dallas, Texas; 15 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers and one grandson. (Douglass Tribune, February 1, 1978)
