According to various sources, he married Jane Darrough, daughter of Sarah C. Vogan and James Darrough, and had 4 children: Mary Ann d. 1902, never married; John T. 1844- ; Phillip James 1846- ; and Worth Alexander m. Lydia Hurlock. I believe he may have married 2 more times.

 In the 1850 census for Boone Co., Indiana, Jesse A. Stoops is 31 KY farmer; with Elizabeth J. 29; Mary A. 9 Indiana; John T. 7 IN, James 4 IN, Alexander W. 1 IN; and John Ketring 13 IN.  NOTE: I believe Elizabeth Jane may have died, as Jesse is living with his brother, and his children are farmed out to various relatives. {<findagrave.com>}
 In the 1860 census for Noblesville, Hamilton Co., Indiana, Philip Stoops is 57 born Kentucky, farmer; with Margaret 47 KY; William W. 27 Indiana; John H. 15; Mary 12 IN; and [half-brother?] Jesse 40 clerk from Kentucky; [son] Philip L. 25 IN farmer; and Sarah 18 IN. {p. 233 & 234} Jesse's daughter Mary A. 17, is living with [her uncle?] John Darrough in Jefferson, Boone Co., IN. His son Alexander 11, is living in the household of aunt Mary Wheeler in Noblesville.  Son Phillip James may be the James Stoops 13 living in the household of James Richard 57 KY. [Possibly an uncle on the Darrough side?] I have not found son John T.
 In the 1870 census for Union, Boone Co., Indiana, Jesse A. Stoops is (57?), farmer born Kentucky; with [second?] wife Elizabeth J. 49 KY; [children] Mary A. 28; John F. 26; and Phillip J. 23 -- all born Indiana. {p. 7 / 246 roll 300 HeritageQuest} Alexander is a laborer in the household of [cousin?] John Wheeler in Noblesville, Hamilton Co.
 There are postings regarding the marriage of Jesse A. Stoops to a Mrs. Elizabeth Anderson in 1871 in Hamilton Co.
 In the 1880 census for Noblesville, Hamilton Co., Indiana, Jesse A. Stoops is 61, farmer born Kentucky (father Pennsylvania, mother Maryland); with wife Elizabeth 51 Indiana (parents Tennessee); and stepson James O. Anderson 19 Indiana (parents same).{Page 438B} Daughter Mary is living with cousin John Wheeler.

 In the 1900 census for Union, Boone Co., James P. Stoops 50, and sister Mary A. 58, both single, are living together.
