 In the 1870 census for Iliopolis, Sangamon Co., Illinois, Benjamin Keck is 32, farmer from Baden; with Polly 27 IL; and Frederick 2 IL.  Also in the household are Jesse Shankland 11 IL; Anna Keck 2; Charles Fisher 37 Nassau [Germany]; W. (Shurehart?) 29 'farm laborer'; and (R. Slaughter?) 34 France -- all farm laborers. W. H.  He may be the Jesse E. Shankland, b. Nov 1859, who married Martha J. Buck about 1887 and had children Bert Leslie 1889-1985 CA and Esther 1898-1982 CA. (m. Ryan).  This Jesse is found in 1900 in Prescott, Yavapai Co. Arizona; and in 1920 in Fairmont, Los Angeles Co., California, in 1920, age 58 Illinois (parents same), engineer gas station'; with wife Martha 50 California.  His wife is listed as widow in 1910 in San Diego, living with daughter Esther, and the son Bert is stationed on the USS California in Solano CA.
