BIOGRAPHY Source: "Memorial Record of Southern Minnesota" Lewis Pub.Co., 1890. Pg 418: Jesse Carpenter Parsons, res. St. Peter, Minn, member A.K. Skaro Post,G.A.R., has been a resident of this state for 30 years. Born in Jackson Co., WV, Feb. 9, 1827. His father, Charles Parsons, and grandfather, William Parsons, both natives of VA, the latter a soldier of the Revolution. Mother of subject, was Miss Delilah Carpenter, a native of VA, as was her father, Jesse Carpenter; but her grandfather Carpenter, was born in Mass. and descended from a Puritan family. Children of Charles and Delilah (Carpenter) Parsons were: 1. Martin; 2 Alvin; 3 William; 4 Jesse C.; 5 John; 6 Henry; 7 Stephen; 8 Charles; 9 Mary Jane;10 Nancy Margaret; 11 Eliza Ann; 12 Susan Ann; 13 Malinda, (11 and 12 were twins). The family moved in the late 1820's to Meigs Co, OH, later to Hancock Co, IL, where they both died, aged about 80 years. He was a Methodist; his wife a Presbyterian.

Jesse Carpenter Parsons married, in Gallia Co., OH, at age of 20 years, Miss Lucy Ann McMillian, who for nearly half a century has walked by his side, sharing joys and sorrows, and being a comfort and blessing to him in his years of blindness and darkness. She was a daughter of Henry and Elizabeth (Beard) McMillian, the former a native of Allegheny Co., PA, and representative of a Scotch family; and the latter, born in Philadelphia, of a Pennsylvania-Dutch family. Her parents died in Crawford Co., WI. They had three sons - Union soldiers during the Civil War: Michael, Frank & John. Mr. and Mrs McMillian - Presbyterians. Jesse C. Parsons and wife moved to Hancock Co., IL, located near Carthage, where they lived until after the Civil War, when they came to Minn., res. St. Peter. In 1862, Mr. Parsons joined Co. B, 118th IL Vol. Inf., was a prisoner of war - became invalid - came home with heart trouble, and eyesight nearly gone. CHILDREN: 1. Andrew James; 2. Delilah; 3. Henry; 4. Lizzie Young; 5. Charles; 6. Jesse.

(Doreen's Corrections: Henry and Elizabeth McMillin had six sons and three daughters. Charles Parsons was age 70, living with daughter Eliza Ann and her husband John McMillin in Wisc. in 1870. Apparently, his wife Delilah had already passed. Twins are corrected above to show #11 Eliza Ann and #12 Susan Ann, both born in 1836 per census records. Daughters Malinda and Nancy Margaret are NOT shown with Charles & Delilah on the 1850 or 1860 US census records, so is an error or are infants that died.)
