per Ellis, Taylor book; Jesse was killed by lightning along with 2 of his brothers. They had been walking along a prairie path toward a neighbor's home during a storm when they were struck down. A cousin, John N. Curry, found the bodies lying along the path about 10 feet apart. They were buried in a single grave, the first burial in Ellis cemetery on a plot set aside by their father for a cemetery. A small log house covered the grave for several years until it rotted away.
