    Jesse Claypool was born about 1793 in Virginia, USA. He was the son of Jesse Claypool & Elizabeth Miller.

    On September 15, 1821, Jesse Claypool enlisted, for 5 years, in the 12th U.S. Infantry, serving under Captain James Paxton during the War of 1812. He was 5'6" tall, with gray/dark eyes, dark hair and a light/dark complexion. He was 18 years old, from Greenbrier, Virginia. See Records of Men Enlisted in the U.S. Army Prior to the Peace Establishment, May 17, 1815, pg. 245, attached.

    On July 20, 1818, Jesse Claypool received a land warrant for 120 acres in reward for his service.

    Jesse Claypool married Matilda Orandorf on March 8, 1828 in Sangamon County, Illinois. Her parents are unknown.
