    p. 1 – the oldest document is a deed dated 20 Aug 1798 whereby Jerh (Jeremiah) Shelly purchased 30 acres of land from Edward Wright in Jefferson County, TN
    - Jeremiah Shelly also owned and operated an Ordinary or “Public House” as recorded on page 143, Book 1, of Court Minutes, October Session 1799. (with Benj. Murell as security).
    - The Will of Jeremiah Shelly dated 21 Sep 1797 names his wife, Jean, “my little son Nathan”, and two unnamed daughters. It is believed that they were Mary “Polly” Shelly b. 1787 married Jacob Harman b. 1785; and Elizabeth Shelly. . . . Jean and the three children above are all mentioned in the will of Alexander Campbell. Jacob Herman is also mentioned in this will.
    - There was also a William Shelly living in Jefferson County, TN during this same era who could be a brother or father of Jeremiah.
