Facts and Events
Source:Essex Genealogist (Massachusetts) (Essex Society of Genealogists), Vol. 14, p. 40, 42, says of the son of James and Hepzibah, resided in Hampton in 1748 when he signed deed (Essex Deed 92:145, named as "Jeremiah Pearson of Hampton in New Hampshire, tailor", one of the "heirs at law to the estate of Capt. James Person, late of Haverhill, deceased"), and in 1747 Jeremiah and Mary Pearson witnessed wills. But no wife is identified, nor any further details. Jeremiah had children Hannah Pearson and Isaac Green Pearson in the Newbury records. Hannah is baptized in Exeter, NH, suggesting a connection to the Jeremiah of Hampton, and Isaac's middle name hints of a connection to a family surnamed Green. In Source:Brown, Warren. History of the Town of Hampton Falls, New Hampshire, in the Record of Marriages, is found the marriage 2 Nov 1738 of "Jeremiah Pierson of Harvard" and Mary Green [Vol. 1, p. 134]. In the church records, we find on 4 Apr 1742, Jeremiah Pearson was admitted, and then on the following 18 Apr, Mary Pearson, wife of Jeremiah [Vol. 2, p. 85]. On 27 Sep 1741, Abigail Pearson, daughter of Jeremiah was baptized [Vol. 2, p. 109]. On Vol. 2, p. 176, Brown tells us the Jeremiah Pearson who lived in Hampton Falls about 1740 was a tailor. Jeremiah now appears in Newbury records, with the baptism of Hannah ("at Exeter") in 1746, and son Isaac Green in 1748. These are both recorded at the Old South Church, the church Jeremiah became an Elder for. Then the birth of Jeremiah, Jr., to "Jeremiah and Mary" in 1750 when no other Jeremiah and Mary is of child-bearing age. Then under the name Pierson, the baptisms at Old South Church of Mary 13 Nov 1752, Hulda 18 Nov 1754, Elizabeth 18 Dec 1757. Jeremiah became a sailor, and died by 1784 when his will was proved. Abigail, Mary, Hulda, and Elizabeth all appear to have died young since none are mentioned in Jeremiah's will. Only Hannah and Isaac survived their father. It may be that his wife Mary died as a result of giving birth to Huldah. In any event, she died about that time, as Jeremiah Jr. (as he was known due to the presence in town of an older Jeremiah, b. 1699, d. 1768) m. 1756 Mary (Titcomb) Adams, the widow of Stephen Adams who died in 1753. Elizabeth must have been her child. She also had children by her first marriage. The will of Elder Jeremiah Pearson, written in 1795 mentions wife Elizabeth, so there must have been a third marriage, too, presumably the Elizabeth Mighill of Rowley who m. 1779 Jeremiah Pearson in Newburyport.
