Jeremiah was the son of Robert and Elizabeth Patrick.

While serving in the Revolutionary War, Jeremiah was taken prisoner. He was charged with being an enemy to this country and acting under the commission of the King of Great Britian. Witnesses were brought forth and he was found innocent but bound to his good behavior for 12 months and fined a sum of 1000 pounds.

Jeremiah was born in Maryland, moved to Virginia, and then to Floyd County (now Magoffin County), Kentucky. He was a farmer and one of the earliest settlers of Kentucky.

Jeremiah married Sarah "Sallie" Blair in 1761. Jeremiah and Sallie had children: William, Jeremiah, John Jackson, Brice, Sarah, Elias, Maston, Margaretta, Mary Polly, Gerusia, Rutha, Louisa, and Nancy.
